Peer tutoring
A photo just won’t do this justice. Peer tutoring is proven to be a highly effective way of learning and benefits both parties. Here 5th and 6th class are working with senior infants and the sound is so heart warming! They haven’t even noticed the camera! Click the link to view!

Huge thanks to Francis’ dad who came in today to teach the senior students about online safety and what it’s like working for an app company. The Occulus VR headsets were the highlight of the visit – thank you!!! It is amazing to be able to enjoy digital learning in such an experiential, fun way

Hedgehog tracking!
Our Green School Committee is conducting research as part of a national tracking of hedgehogs this week. They have set out a little shelter with hedgehog suitable food and water. They have placed a mixture of oil and paint (it’s safe -we checked!!) so as to catch some footprints! So far we have no results but we have a hunch that there might be a family of hedgehogs around so fingers crossed they visit! Stay tuned!

A visit from Carol Carr – Paralympic Gold Medalist!
We had a super opportunity today in that we welcomed Irish Paralympic gold medalist Carol Carr to our school. Carol brought her guide dog Arlo who was a hit with the children too! Carol shared her experiences as a female athlete with disablities and was most inspiring. We feel that it is so important to promote both inclusion and gender equality in sport so this was a fantastic experience and we are grateful to Lisa Hempenstall for arranging this visit. The children were enabled to see Braille and see Carol’s Hall of Fame certificate and her gold and bronze medals. We hope the children take something from this visit.

This year was a special one as we introduced the Joe O’Shaughnessy Memorial Cup for the football penalty shoot out. Kiefer Shelly was the worthy recipient of the perpetual cup and we were grateful to Marcella O’Shaughnessy, Joe’s daughter, for presenting the cup and speaking about Joe. We were also pleased to welcome … Continue reading

End of year ukulele concert!
WOW! What a treat we had today! Ms. Ní Shúilleabháin’s 3rd and 4th class performed a medley of their ukulele songs learned over the year with Diarmuid Comerford of Music Generation. We had violins, electric bass, percussion (from Diarmuid’s brother Michael) and guitar also! We had strumming, plucking, singing and percussion from the class. I am so proud of how well the Music Generation programme is embedding in our school and look forward to promoting ith further in the future. We definitely have musicians in our community. Each child looked so happy while playing – this makes it all worthwhile! Click the links below to view! Huge thanks to Ms. … Continue reading
