Girls’ Mini 7s and Rackard League
Mini 7s Girls; The girls’ mini 7s team was very successful this year. In the first round they won all three games beating Loreto Gorey, Ballyellis and a strong Gaelscoil team. They went on to the second round on Friday 6th October. They came up against a competitive Kilmuckridge side but kept their cool and battled hard to overcome them. The Scoil Ghormáin Naofa girls had all the play in the second half and were so unlucky not to have tallied a higher score. They then went on to play Ballyfad who had beaten Kilmuckridge. Ballyfad had a strong team out especially the mid-field but the Castletown girls didn’t … Continue reading

Boys’ Mini 7s and Rackard League
Boys’ Mini 7s and Rackard League. The Boys have been extremely busy from the very beginning of the year with both Rackard League and Mini 7s. The teams are very well represented and are performing excellently on the field of play. We are in the thick of things in Rackard league with just one group game left to play against Ferns. To date, we have played Bunclody, Kilmuckridge and Kilanerin where the boys came out on top with three hard fought wins while having just one narrow defeat to St. Joseph’s CBS. A win over Ferns will place us in the A semi-finals which would be a great achievement for … Continue reading

Positive Mental Health Week 2017
Positive Mental Health Week 2017 This week was Mental Health Awareness Week and we continued our sessions of mindfulness in class. We regularly talk about the importance of practising positive mental health strategies. Our teachers will be upskilling in mindfulness training in the coming weeks. As part of the week’s activities, 5th and 6th class took part in The Big Sing, run by Arklow HSE. The emphasis was on the part that music plays in positive mental health. We sang Believe in Yourself and Ms Russell and Ms Byrne were so proud of us! We had fun dancing to Firework at the end before we watched doves being released outside.

Maths Week 2017
MATHS WEEK 2017 Despite the interference of Hurricane Ophelia, Maths Week 2017 was a great success! Each class took part in Maths problem of the day and some students won prizes for their efforts. Ms. Whittle ran a Maths Eyes competition which resulted in some very creative entries! During the school closure (Hurricane Ophelia), children were invited to enter a 2-d shapes art competition and Ellie Byrne from Junior Infants was the worthy winner. Ms. Kinsella ran a Maths trail which saw our students out and about investigating numeracy in the school environs. We overheard some wonderful mathematical language during the Maths Trail!

Maths Week 2017
Ms. Whittle and Ms. Kinsella have worked really hard to coordinate an exciting programme of events for this year’s Maths Week. Our students are really excited about the Maths Eyes competition! They will capture photographs of numeracy in their environment. Perhaps it’s a pizza divided into sixths, the temperature on a thermometer or a half eaten bar of chocolate! We can’t wait to see what creativity is produced through this project. There will be prizes for the winners. Each day there will be problem solving challenges for each class and children will engage in maths through linkage with other subjects.

Mental Health Week 2017
Here at Scoil Ghormáin Naofa, we regularly practise mindfulness in class so we are well equipped in terms of practising positive mental health strategies. As part of Mental Health Week, we will be participating in The Big Sing in Glenart College, Arklow. This initiative aims to promote positive mental health through the medium of song. Our 5th and 6th class will be performing ‘Believe in Yourself’, an anthem that is especially appropriate for the event. Miss Byrne has worked hard preparing students for their performance and we are very grateful. We talked about this image in assembly – we think it is really powerful and certainly gives us something to … Continue reading
