The Beast from the East!
I hope everyone is warm and cosy today! I have some links here to help with cabin fever. As it is engineers’ week this week, I have included some engineering and STEM challenges that should help to keep children occupied. If your child takes part in any of the activities, I would love for you to post a picture to our Twitter account @Castletown_NS. There will be prizes for those who do! 15 engineering challenges kids love {STEAM} http://www.primaryscience.ie/activities_advanced_search.php?type=teacher_created&page=1 https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?tab=wm#inbox/161dd3c6828af1e1 http://www.engineersweek.ie/ Thanks also to Aideen O’Flaherty who sent me this link – it looksgreat! http://durris.aberdeenshire.sch.uk/snow-packs/ Don’t forget those pictures!

John Spillane – an interactive concert
Today was great fun! We enjoyed a concert with John Spillane who played a repertoire of Irish songs that we had been learning for the last few weeks. He was very impressed by how well we both knew and sang them! This was made possible by money collected at our Christmas concert, so thank you once again! To see video, click the link below. IMG_7435

Engineers’ week
What a fun day we have just had! Bricks4kidz came to our school and coordinated a workshop with each class where the children were tasked with constructing a car. We looked at gears and explored the notion of engineering. The team were great fun and we loved having our own individual toolkits! Perhaps we have unlocked some engineering potential today!!

Pancake Tuesday
What a treat! Concepta, Sandy, Sinéad, David and little Rachel were on hand to serve us delicious pancakes for Pancake Tuesday! Thank you to the PA for sponsoring this lovely treat. It is safe to say that if it were a Maths lesson and we were tallying data, that Nutella would be by far the highest on the bar chart!

Grandparents’ Day
What a lovely day we have had! It was wonderful to see such a great turnout of grandparents at our mass and reception today. Fr. McCarney celebrated a very special mass and our children performed their jobs really well. Thank you to Ms. Byrne for coordinating this special mass and to Ms Murphy for her beautiful violin playing. Back in school, the grandparents were treated to performances in each classroom and a tour of the school. They were then treated to an afternoon tea selection of cakes and sandwiches which was served by our very hard working Parents’ Association. Grandparents were gifted with a bookmark to remember the occasion and … Continue reading
