We are coming to the end of our current board of management term and I would like to express my sincere thanks to Joe, Mary, Louise, Concepta, Noel and Niamh who gave of their time and energies voluntarily in support of our school. It has been a most positive experience for our school. We are seeking two Parents’ representatives for the next board of management (2019/2023). There will be a vote in school on Tuesday November 5th at 6pm for this purpose. The procedures are in the link below (p64). We will use the procedures outlined in Option 1 (p66). https://www.education.ie/en/Schools-Colleges/Information/Boards-of-Management/governance-manual-for-primary-schools-2019-2023.pdf
This term, we are focusing on Persuasive Writing as a school. This will culminate in a school wide competition at Hallowe’en. The children will be challenged to write a convincing argument in this genre (differentiated for each level). We look forward to the entries!
These may be of interest, lots of variety of topics.
First and second class had a wonderful morning at Gorey Library. We arrived a little early so they joined in with the nursery rhyme session and really enjoyed it! They were so kind and gentle with the toddlers in the group. I was very proud to hear the lovely feedback from staff and parents there. As it was Maths Week, the children undertook a fun Maths Word Search challenge before engaging in the Lego Bricks 4 Kidz workshop. Each child assembled an airplane and added a working motor! Great STEM in action! Many thanks to Wexford Bricks 4 Kidz and Gorey Library for this great day!
We had a super morning with Barbara and team in Gorey library listening to Room on the Broom – the perfect book for Hallowe’en! Thank you for all the fun and activities!
We had an active, digital Maths trail in sunny Castletown today! A great way to celebrate Maths Week! Our 5th and 6th class students unlocked QR codes on the ipads to uncover problems to be solved! Thanks Ms. Carroll!
We offer heartiest congratulations to the winning Castletown team on their victory yesterday! The children were delighted to welcome these local celebrities to school with the silverware !! It was great inspiration for the next generation of players. Thanks for the lollies! We like to think it was down to our rap!!
What an exciting day we have had!! * In the afternoon we were thrilled to welcome the winning ladies camogie team and players who will be representing Castletown in the county final on Sunday. They loved the rap (composed by Ms. ní Shuilleabháin!) and answered some questions posed by our students. * Thanks to our chairperson Joe O’Shaughnessy for joining us and explaining the origins of the Castletown colours Check out the rap at the link below!! How talented is Ms. ní Shuilleabháin and how cool are our Castletown kids?! Video
I was so proud of our students who sang so beautifully today at the Big Sing for Mental Health. It would certainly lift your spirits! Thanks to Barbara Duffy and her team for a lovely morning. Well done to all the other schools who were in fine voice!
