What a week we have had! It started on Sunday, where Ms D’Arcy’s speech and drama students excelled in the duologue and monologue competitions. Sofia Church came first in her monologue competition. Louise Foley and Síofra Higgins were placed very highly commended. Well done to all!
On Tuesday, Ms. Russell’s 5th class were awarded second place and 90 marks for their rendition of Macavity the Mystery Cat in the Choral Verse competition. On Wednesday, Mr. Breen’s class, supported by Ms. D’Arcy, won their Action Poem competition – they brought the house down with their entertaining performance. Ms. Byrne’s 6th class came second in their competition having put on an amazing performance of The Three Pigs by Roald Dahl. Great credit also goes to Ms. Murphy’s class who received a very highly commended placement for their recital of Finn and the Salmon of Knowledge.
I am bursting with pride at how well each class both performed and represented our school. I am extremely grateful to our teachers for all the work they have put in. Thanks to Carmel and Finola for all the prop work and preparation. Thanks to Siobhan for the coordination. Thanks to the parents for organising lifts, making and transporting props. This week, wonderful memories have been made that will last a long time!
While the academic work may be in second place this week, the children have had an opportunity to perform and speak on a public stage. They have learned to both be winners and gracious in defeat. These are invaluable experiences.
I hope everyone has a well deserved rest this evening!
