Happy Easter!

There was great fun in school today as our second term drew to a close! The Easter bunny is great friends with our Parents’ Association and together they delivered special treats to all our students!! We remember the true meaning of Easter as we enter into Holy Week. Thanks to Ms. Byrne for this display. We wish everyone a happy and holy Easter.

Mini 7s Camogie and Hurling

Our Mini 7s Camogie and Hurling campaign got off to a flying start on Tuesday when our girls team emerged victorious, followed by our boys team on Thursday. Both teams played an excellent Kilanerin side and they thank the teams for a great game. I would like to thank Ms. D’Arcy, Mr. Breen, Ms. Murphy, Carmel and Michael for all their dedication and support. We look forward to the next games after Easter!

Enrolment Night

We had a very successful enrolment night on Wednesday 21st March. It was wonderful to meet the parents of our incoming junior infants and to introduce them to life in our school community. I am very grateful to all our teachers and SNAs who came and supported this night. There were presentations by teachers and parents and I was immensely proud of students Sofia and Jake who endorsed the school from a student’s perspective. Sophie played a blinder as she greeted parents with beautiful tin whistle playing! We look forward to meeting the new junior infants at our sports day in June where they will take part in a special … Continue reading

Junior Entrepreneur

Junior Entrepreneur was a massive success! I would like to pay tribute to the Trojan work of Ms Byrne and her team. There was a wonderful atmosphere in school yesterday and practically all stock was sold out! The class raised a whopping €1400! I am very proud of their social consciences in that they have decided to donate €200 to the Jack and Jill foundation, €200 to the Laura Lynn foundation and €400  to the school! I hope they really enjoy spending the remainder on a well deserved treat!!

Eason Spelling Bee

We had a nailbiting final of the Eason Spelling Bee in school today. We whittled the finalists down to Aaron who will go forward to represent Scoil Ghormáin Naofa in the next stage. We wish Aaron all the best and hope that he really enjoys the experience! Many thanks to Mr. Breen for coordinating!

Junior Entrepreneur in full swing!

Ms. Byrne’s 6th class room has been a hive of activity lately as production for Junior Entrepreneur goes into its final stages. There have already been a number of sales with Doran and Michael completely selling out of firewood. I’m sure lots of homes were glad of them during Storm Emma! It has been lovely to see parental involvement along the way. We also had a visit from Fr. O’Cochláin this week who was extremely impressed by the level of industry taking place! Stay tuned for details of the upcoming sale of work date! Thanks to Ms. Byrne for all her enthusiasm and guidance.

Hurling blitz

A huge well done and thank you to all the boys from Scoil Ghormáin Naofa who took part in the after school hurling blitz. It was a great success and certainly improved their level of skill over the five weeks. We had some epic encounters between the sides and each game was very close with a throw of a dice between each team. In the end Galway Came out on top of the league with 6 points. Congratulations to Doran Daly O’ Toole, Kyle Fegan and Ross Higgins who represented Castletown on that Galway team. A huge well done to all the other boys to took part also who were, Diarmuid O Shaughnessy, … Continue reading
