We are delighted to launch the new Students’ Council for the coming academic year. I know that those elected will do great justice in representing the voice of our most important people, our students! The Council will be involved in fundraising, book swap ventures and many other initiatives! Many thanks to Ms. Whittle for organising and supporting our council.
It is with great heart and enthusiasm that we embark on the renewal process for our Active Flag. Here at Scoil Ghormáin Naofa, we extol the importance of healthy minds and healthy bodies. If we have both, then we will have the tools to be great learners! Our Active Flag coordinator, Ms. D’Arcy has a wonderful programme of events planned for the coming year. We kicked off this morning with Scooter day! What a fun Friday we are having! It was a joy to see our students whizz around the laps we had set up. Well done to all for remembering your helmets! d90f25ce-f5ba-4ad3-89fa-8b286e2ca6c6 – Check out our Scooter video … Continue reading
We had a really interesting visit from Castletown resident, Lena Leonard, who came to talk to our students about lifestyles from generations past. Lena has maintained traditional customs and lives a life without technology. Our children were fascinated and I was impressed by their recall when I asked them the next day! We were also delighted to welcome Ms. Byrne’s Mum too! Many thanks to Lena and to Ms. Byrne for organising this very interesting event!

This term, our students are having great fun with the lunch time league. Mr. Breen has organised a fantastic league and it is great to see students taking on the role of referee. Our new Sports Code of Conduct reminds us that the referee’s decision is final! It is not an easy job but our students are playing and refereeing fairly. Well done all!
This term, we are focusing on the Narrative Genre. Our whole school is working on this theme. We are running a writing competition and the theme is Hallowe’en. Our students are currently planning what they will write about. I can’t wait to read their spooky stories! There will be prizes for winners from each class. I will post some pictures of our Working Literacy Wall when we hang up winners’ entries. Good luck everyone!!
Hello everyone, we are delighted to welcome you back to another exciting school year! We have some new members of staff; our new teachers are Niamh ní Shúilleabháin , Orla Morris and Sarah Carroll and our new SNAs are Fiona Byrne, Sharon Power and Angie Barnes. We are looking forward to focusing on STEM as an area of interest this year. We are also implementing the new Primary Language Curriculum and Physical Literacy has been identified as our area for School Self Evaluation. I have attached a file of photos of our new junior infants who are settling in really well! First Day Pics
School reopens on Thursday 30th August at 9 am. I will be welcoming our junior infants at 10 am and other new students at 10.30 am. Ruth will be in on Tuesday 28th for those who wish to purchase uniforms. We look forward to seeing everyone then! Enjoy the sunshine! Emer Russell
At Sports Day, we had the pleasure of raising our new Biodiversity flag for the first time! We congratulated Ms. McDevitt and the Green School Committee on their hard work and praised how they made the initiative so interactive for all the students. Our green school committee will be rewarded with ice cream and pizza before the school year is out!
We were thrilled to welcome our incoming junior infants on Friday. They were brought to meet their new teacher, Ms. Whittle and they had a look around their new classroom. Thanks to our 6th class students who buddied up with them to make them feel at home. They had their faces painted and then participated in a fun race for which they all received a participation medal. Many thanks to Ruth and Daniel who facilitated the uniform sale and to Rochella who welcomed our new families to our school community on behalf of the Parents’ Association.
